The nommo Manifesto

Human creativity has always been an act of transmission.

In the Dogon tradition, nommo names the generative power of speech: the force that brings things into being. That idea lies at the heart of this project.

Every creative work begins with a creator and continues through the people who encounter it.

For generations, independent creators have shared their work through systems built for distribution at scale. Those systems widened access, but they also concentrated power. Creativity was reduced to metrics, streams, impressions, and transactions. The bond between creator and collector grew more distant, while those who controlled the platforms, the narratives, and the infrastructure accumulated the real ownership.

Now artificial intelligence has ushered in a new age of abundance, and with it, new pressures for creators. Works can be generated, accelerated, replicated, and transformed at unprecedented scale, often faster than their makers can respond. The same tools that expand creative possibility also make authorship easier to blur, originality easier to copy, and value easier to extract from its source.

If creators do not own their work, they are building value for everyone except themselves. If collectors do not own what they love, they are only renting meaning.

This is not a rejection of technology. Throughout history, creators have embraced new instruments, tools, and methods. Every technological shift has expanded the range of human expression.

But as creation becomes easier to reproduce, something else becomes more valuable:

provenance.

This matters more than ever in a world where people are told they will own nothing and be happy, while those who shape the narrative own nearly everything.

This is why nommo exists.

nommo is a cultural ecosystem built for independent creators and collectors who believe creative works should retain identity, meaning, and connection.

It is intentionally structured around two complementary institutions.

nommo technologies is the operating and technical engine. It builds the systems that make collection, provenance, stewardship, creator ownership, and authenticated digital autographs possible.

The nommo Institute for Creative Futures is the charitable trust and cultural home. With a mission in perpetuity, it advances the broader cultural purpose through research, education, curation, discourse, and the preservation of creative meaning.

It is multi-format by design, spanning the many ways creativity takes shape and travels through the world.

Within nommo, works are not merely uploaded, streamed, or downloaded. They are collected.

Each collected work receives a unique identity, creating a digital artefact with provenance and a history of stewardship.

Collectors can lend or gift works from their own vault, extending the life of what they own and sharing it with others without surrendering custody of the original collection.

Creators can attach authenticated digital autographs, giving works a verifiable mark of authorship and intimacy that deepens their cultural and collectible value.

And because ownership should not end at the point of purchase, nommo gives both sides a real secondary market: a collector can resell a limited-edition work, and the creator shares in that resale too. Nothing here promises a work will rise in value, only that if it does, both the person who made it and the person who kept it are part of that story, not shut out of it.

In an age where copies are limitless, authenticity becomes precious.

In an age where content is abundant, meaning becomes rare.

In an age where ownership is being narrowed for the many and expanded for the few, nommo exists to preserve what should not be taken away.

Not by restricting creativity, but by honouring it.

Not by surrendering to systems that separate people from what they make, but by restoring the bond between creator, collector, and creation.

Because the value of a creation is not only that it exists.

The value is that someone created it.

Someone cared enough to share it.

And someone else cared enough to preserve it.

That connection is worth protecting.

As the Yoruba say, “Igi kan kò dá igbó ṣe,” one tree does not make a forest. No creator stands alone, every work becomes greater through the community that receives, remembers, and preserves it.
